A missing battery door can cause more trouble than it looks like on a Hero 8 Black. The door helps hold the battery firmly against the contacts. With it missing, the battery can shift and lose contact, and the camera may not power on even with a charged battery. Try holding a charged battery firmly in place and pressing the power button. If it turns on that way, the missing door may be most of the problem.

If it still won't start, the cause could be the battery itself, damaged contacts in the bay, or a fault on the board. Without the door, dirt and moisture also get into the battery area more easily, so we'd check for that.
