Now the screen is unresponsive at times (seems to freeze and needs to force quit - usually). I've restored from factory, reset... but hasn't solved the problem.

2 - can I remove the sim card and place in old iphone before sending it to you?

Hi Steve,  you can remove your sim card before sending it to us. We have successfully repaired many phones. You will only be responsible for payment if the repair is successful.
