Dear Sir/ Madam,

I have a 2nd generation iPod that turns on has all the menu options and is operable and chargeable. However it doesn’t want to sync with the MacBook (old from 2006 with FireWire 400 port). I’m thinking it is the chip problem near the FireWire port (an often seen and heard malfunction). May question is, can this still be repaired?

Possibly, and we're happy to look. That would be board-level work, so we can't promise a fix sight unseen. Send it under the free 2nd gen Classic diagnostic; we'll test it, tell you what we find, and quote before any work. No bench fee if you decline, just return shipping. Back up anything on it first, since board work carries some data risk.
